The pierced gallery is fashioned like plywood from a laminate of three layers of mahogany glued at 90 degrees to each other. This greatly increases the strength and improves the resistance of the wood to variations in temperature.
The tripod base and baluster stem corresponds to a design in the first edition of Thomas Chippendale’s Director, 1755.
