Venetian Window
The finely proportioned window has solid Siena marble columns, the original glazing bars and a stone balustrade below.

At the top of the columns are Corinthian capitals, which are based on the drawings by Palladio. Made up of stucco formed around lead armatures, this method gives strength to the projections. The capitals support a handsome entablature and double arch, whilst above the glazing is a cartouche decorated with the family coat of arms. Below the rampant lion the Fairfax motto ‘JE LE FERAY DURANT MA VIE’ which roughly translates to ‘I will accomplish this in my lifetime’.
