Turkoman Carpet
This unusual Tekke Bokhara carpet, c.1900, with its predominantly octagonal and ghul patterns, has two male faces, inserted some time later, in the corners of one end.

It has been suggested that these were revolutionary leaders in early 20thC Turkish politics and the one shown, with the date 1921 woven above, may well be that of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish republic and the leader who westernised and secularised the country.
