John Locke Panel
Modelled from contemporary busts and engravings, this image of John Locke is based on an engraving by George Vertue, after a painting by Godfrey Kneller.
The other medallions show John Milton, Joseph Addison and Alexander Pope and help explain, more than anything written or visual, the Viscount’s feelings for home-bred piety, his great love of common sense and a finely tuned sense of humour.
