The mahogany desk, in Gothic style, is based on a design in Thomas Chippendale’s Director, 1755.

The long drawer, with its Gothic tracery pulls out to function as the writing surface and incorporates a hinged platform, raised to provide support for books and documents. A concealed inkwell pivots out to one side to prevent spillage.
