Join us for an afternoon exploring three historically and architecturally rich churches, starting at the lovely St John the Baptist, Healaugh, where some of the earliest parts of this Norman church survive today. Moving on to ‘one of the most sumptuous and one of the best preserved amongst the group of Norman doorways in village churches near York’ (Pevsner), All Saints, Wighill, reveals how nine centuries of development has changed its structure and ways of worship. The tour concludes at twelfth-century St Helen’s in Bilton in Ainsty, where we will enjoy refreshments as well as this church’s fascinating history, from acting as a hospital for Marston Moor casualties through to its restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1869-70.

Members’ own transport required; each church is within a 5-7 minute drive with roadside parking at all three churches.

Friends will shortly receive a mailing with booking details.
