Flower Festival at Fairfax House
Stunning flower arrangements will fill Fairfax House this autumn as part of a new annual flower festival.
Flower Festival at Fairfax House
George Smith, one of the world’s most celebrated lecturers and demonstrators in flower decoration, will team up with the Acomb Flower Club to create flower arrangements for Fairfax House which will be inspired by the 18th century architecture and decoration of the building and the famous Noel Terry collection of English furniture and clocks.
The Flower Festival, known as Flowers in the English Country House, will run from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 September and the arrangements will be displayed in all the rooms and can be viewed during the opening hours and normal House charges apply which are £5.00 (£4.00 concessions).
There will also be a flower symposium – The Art of the Garden - for flower enthusiasts which takes place on Friday 19 September from 10am to 5pm at Friends Meeting House in York. This event will provide a historical context to flowers arranging in the home. The speakers will include an illustrated talk by Mary Rose Blacker author of Flora Domestica - A History of British Flower Arranging 1500 – 193l and Peter Brown, Director of Fairfax House and author of Derby Porcelain, the work of floral and botanical artists, 1790-1805. George Smith will create a flower arrangement and there will be an opportunity for a private viewing of the Flower Festival in Fairfax House. The symposium costs £35 per person for the day which includes a buffet lunch.
Tickets are available from Fairfax House on 01904 655543 or by calling into the reception during open hours.
