FLOWERS AT FAIRAX HOUSE THIS AUTUMN
George Smith teams up with Acomb Flower Club to create stunning flower arrangemnents for Fairfax House
Flower Festival at Fairfax House 2008
Stunning flower arrangements will fill Fairfax House this autumn as part of a new annual flower festival which runs from Saturday 20th to Sunday 28th September.
George Smith, one of the world’s most celebrated lecturers and demonstrators in flower decoration, will team up with the Acomb Flower Club to create flower arrangements for Fairfax House which will be inspired by the 18th century architecture and decoration of the building and the famous Noel Terry collection of English furniture and clocks.
The Flower Festival, known as Flowers in the English Country House, can be viewed during the opening hours which are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 11am to 4.30pm and Sun 1.30pm to 4.30pm. The normal House charges apply which are £5.00 (£4.00 concessions). The arrangements will be displayed in all the rooms. The flower symposium – The Art of the Garden – has now sold out.
Peter Brown, Director at Fairfax House is delighted to give a local flower club the opportunity to decorate Fairfax House and to have the involvement of George Smith. He said: “It has been several years since we had a flower festival in the House and we are thrilled that this event will happen again. We are hoping the wonderful 18th century surroundings will inspire some stunning creations and look forward to seeing and indeed smelling the flowers in the House.”
The Fairfax House 2008 season runs from Saturday 9 February through to 31 December 2008 (closed 24, 25, 26 December for Christmas). The new season’s brochure is now available from Fairfax House, Castlegate, York. Alternatively go to www.fairfaxhouse.co.uk for more information.
