How to get to Fairfax House on foot, by car or on public transport.

Fairfax House is situated in the heart of York close to Clifford’s Tower and the Jorvik Viking Centre. The nearest car park is the Castle Car Park and there are also Park & Ride services, both services stop near to Fairfax House. For further information ring the Travel Information Line on 01904 551400.The map available at the top-right of this page includes all the major streets in the city centre.

Fairfax House on foot

Fairfax House is easily reached from anywhere in the City Centre. Head towards the Coppergate Centre. The House is between the Jorvik Viking Centre and Clifford's Tower. Look out for the green finger signposts to help direct you.

Getting to York

By Car

A map showing the main City Centre car parks is available from the City of York Council website. Castle Car Park is nearest to Fairfax House.

If coming by car take the A64 to York. Exit at the A19 junction for York & Selby. Follow the road into York. At the War Memorial turn right on to Tower Street. The Castle Car Park is directly behind Clifford's Tower.

By Train

The train services to York are extremely reliable.

Below, you will find details on how to reach York from a number of major cities within the UK by train.

Whenever possible it is advisable to book tickets in advance to benefit from special ticket offers and discounts.

From London
Great North Eastern Trains run a very frequent service from London Kings Cross Station to York. The journey on express routes is under two hours and first class accommodation is available. Most trains are fully serviced with buffet facilities. Trains run at half hourly intervals on the hour and half-hour all day between 9.00am and 7.00pm.

From Birmingham
Trains from Birmingham to York are operated by Virgin Cross Country Trains and run regularly from Birmingham New Street Station.

From Manchester
Operated by Arriva Trains Northern, frequent services to York are available from both Manchester Airport and the central Oxford Road station.

From Edinburgh / Glasgow
Express services, operated by Great North Eastern Railways to London stop at York and are extremely frequent.

By Air

Leeds Bradford Airport is the closest airport and there is a direct link from the airport to York Station. To find out more about this service go to http://www.yorkaircoach.com

Manchester Airport is the next closest airport and there is a direct train service to York which takes approximately 1 1/2 hours.
