Rokeby Park was designed and built by its owner, Sir Thomas Robinson between 1725 and 1730. As a great admirer of Kent and Burlington, the house displays admirable features of these two architects, but perhaps as importantly, the grounds are laid out in the ‘naturalistic’ manner and may well be the first such example in England of this informal approach to estate planning.
