Behind the Scenes at the Museum
A chance to have a rare glimpse at the Fairfax Papers.
A study tour of the archives looks at a
selection from over 1,000 documents in the
Fairfax papers which have miraculously
survived in the Newburgh Mss. They help
us understand the day to day living of Lord
Fairfax and his daughter Anne at their
townhouse in York. Ranging from
housekeeping manuals and cellar books to
apothecaries’ potions and objects for the
dining room table, they offer us a rare insight into Georgian life in York.
