Annual General Meeting and talk by Peter Brown, MBE FSA

Our regular formal Annual General Meeting will last only about 25 minutes, to hear the year’s report on our activities and financial position, to approve the accounts and elect the society’s committee.

It will be followed by an illustrated talk by Peter Brown, former Director of Fairfax House and of the York Civic Trust, who has made the first in-depth study of the sculpture collections of Yorkshire houses. He will look particularly at the collections at Castle Howard, Newby Hall and Wentworth Woodhouse – the last one unfortunately now dispersed. The popularity of the Grand Tour in the 18th century resulted in the collecting and display of classical sculpture, and to interest in this period and its decorative styles.

The venue is the St Michael le Belfrey Hall, 52A Stonegate, York.
