TASTING: EXPLORING LORD FAIRFAX’S CELLAR

A Miscellany of Wine for the Georgian House

Any self-respecting host of the eighteenth century would have wanted to offer his guests the very best clarets and ports. Extensive cellar records from Fairfax House show Lord Fairfax was no exception. However, Hock, Burgundy and Madeira were also drunk, and this talk and tasting with wine expert Richard Goodacre will explore just what wines were available to polite society, and the reasons why they fell both in and out of favour. To illustrate the talk six modern day examples will be tasted.
