Community Events and Activities

The York Civic Trust, who restored the House in 1982-84, works closely with Fairfax House to offer community events and activities. In 2006 the Young York Civic Trust, with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, took part in the York Mystery Plays and performed ‘The Fall of the Angels’ wagon plays. In 2007, also supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Young York Civic Trust staged a Georgian Ball at the Assembly Rooms in York (see video below) which involved 100 York sixth-formers. Students received training from professional dancing masters, and wigs and costumes were hired in for the grand event. The Trust drew upon the expertise of York scholars for training in etiquette and the social graces and students had a fantastic opportunity to explore aspects of eighteenth-century life.
