The hall was built 1757-64 by John Carr for William Haggerston and remodelled by Francis Johnson c1962. It is a fine mid-Georgian house with many similarities to Fairfax House and is now the home of Mr and Mrs Philip Guest. We will also visit the strikingly large Italianate Roman Catholic Chapel alongside, completed in 1839, and the Parish church of St Everilda, a brick-built church c.1793, also attributed to John Carr.
This event is being organised as a visit for Fairfax House volunteers. Friends of Fairfax House are also invited. (Volunteers will be given priority booking.)
Meet 2.30pm at the Parish Church before moving on to the Hall.
