Never work with children or animals? Hollywood did, and animals have been inspiring stories, headlining cinematic masterpieces and stealing scenes since movies began. Silver Screen 2019 takes a walk on the wild side, drawing inspiration from the animal kingdom: from Hollywood’s furry and four-legged acting legends, great and small, to the creatures who inspired cult classic titles.
Join us as Animalia honours the magic, drama, humour and visceral excitement that animal kind has summoned to the silver screen.
This is the sixth biennial festival of classic film in which Fairfax House pays homage to the days of St George’s Hall, when this Georgian townhouse was better known to the people of York as a cinema and dancehall. Showcasing eleven films that evoke the golden age of filmmaking at Hollywood and Pinewood, Fairfax House returns to its early-20th century days transforming its ‘saloon’ to a cinema to bring some of the greatest names of silver screen back to the house.
