Case Study: Environmental Project

Fairfax House was saved from dereliction and demolition in the mid-1980s through an ambitious restoration project by York Civic Trust. 32 years later it is still pioneering and working hard to preserve and protect its important collections and historically significant interiors.

In 2014 Fairfax House took an important step forward in this mission, implementing an extensive 4 year programme to update its internal environmental systems, in order to best care for its collections, improve its energy efficiency and reduce its ongoing running costs.

This was made possible thanks to a GIS Ready Grant from Museum Development Yorkshire, a Preventative Conservation Grant from AIM and the support of York Conservation Trust.
