Experience the sights, sounds and smells of a winter's eve in the 18th century, and see Fairfax House come to life!

As part of York Ghost Week, Fairfax House invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening, where history comes alive through an immersive soundscape, alluring aromas, and the warm glow of candlelight.

The soft crackling of an open hearth, the smell of freshly baked bread floating through the hallways, the hushed whispers of elegant soirées and the tinkling of a square piano – all while flickering candlelight casts shadows through the building. Enjoy this historic house as you’ve never experienced it before!

Do not miss this rare opportunity to see Fairfax House lit entirely by candlelight, transporting you to a winter’s eve in the eighteenth century in this captivating experience of the senses.

Join us in the evenings of Monday 30th October – Friday 3rd November 2023. There are 15-minute time slots available from 5pm until 6:15pm. The house will close at 7pm. Your ticket to Echoes of the Past will allow you free general admission entry to Fairfax House for the year – a perfect excuse to come back and see our Christmas exhibition, A Townmouse Christmas.

Tickets are available by clicking here.
